![]() ago Only have tried the symphones blew me away though rudbear 1 yr. I’ve not listened to headphones in a while and think I will bring the BF2 up this weekend and see how it pairs with the EAR+ HD. ![]() The mids on the symphones are very recessed, playing a fair bit quieter than the R1. I listen with HD600s, HD650Ms (sbaf kiss mod) and a pair of DIY Grado-esque headphones with lovely wood cups and the Elleven Acoustica R1 drivers - they’re detail beasts and have a midrange to die for. They are known for their sparkle and lifelike highs, but are often noted as lacking in bass. LTA V1 Modular Headphone, featuring Elleven Acoustica P1 drivers, quick assembly video. ![]() Headify has dedicated following customizing their own Grado-like headphones. The Grado/Alessandro prestige series headphones are open, entry to mid-level headphones popular especially for Rock music, but also for genres such as Jazz and Acoustic. Another that I’d consider is a used HD700 since you have a tube amp which I consider a must for the HD700 and since many hate them they can be found quite cheap these days but they have great sound stage/imaging, decent mids and clean/clear highs on a tube amp. Honestly, Elleven Acoustica R1 Not that the V9 isn’t delightful, but for the same amount oif money as a symphones driver the R1 is a steal. There are three Grado custom driver companies out there right now: Nhoord (South Africa), Symphones Magnum (Canada), and Elleven Acoustica Ypsilon (UK). I’ve also owned the Ananda, Sundara and HD600 but have sold them off since they were getting no use. It should cost under your $500 budget unless you are looking for very exotic wood. As for the drivers, the standard 46 mm diameter cutout on the baffle will accept any Grado-mod driver out there from famous brands like Elleven Acoustica, Symphones or Nhoord, but will also fit smaller diameter drivers with a special adapter. IMO for jazz and pop from the 70’s these are hard to beat along with being light and comfortable since you can use “G” pads which are much more comfortable and either the “S” or “L” and unlike most other headphones they are cheap and easy to replace. I’d suggest a custom built Ypsilon G1 driver using a “G” style cup from Elleven Acoustica or contact someone that does custom builds that can build cups using whatever wood you like. Some HeadFi members in the Grado mod threads will occasionally custom make and sell their own cups, such as fleasbaby.I own an AKG K7XX, HE400i (first gen) and Grado SR60, SR225e, RS2e plus a few using drivers from Elleven Acoustica, Nhoord, Symphones and Turbulent. Stratocaster Pads To Mod (Uses L Cushion With Beyerdynamic EDT250V): Some even find the HD600 a bit ‘strident’ in the 2-4kHz area. For classical music the HD600 is universally named when it comes to ‘realistic sound’ without any sibilance. If you know of one, that has been used in the community, comment below.) The GS2000e, however, has a higher and above all wider peak between 4kHz and 7kHz. (I can’t remember one or two other people that frequently do Grado recabling and detachable mods for a good value. ![]() PETEREK (should do detachable modification): Elleven Acoustica Epsilon R1 drivers 2019 version. Headband Velcro Pad (Just Barely Fits Over 7506 headband): Ĭables (there plenty on eBay, if you search for something like Grado Cable’s.) Sony 7502 also works, but I have not seen a link for the headband assembly (buy product used if you are into investing): If you already own a Grado, you can call the company and purchase an extra. Grado Headband: Buy a cheap Grado, like the SR60/SR80, or consider used.
